You never get a second chance to make a first impression. So, today I want to talk to you about the top three ministry interview questions and how to answer them.
If you have poor interview skills, you will likely not make it to the second round of interviews, despite your glowing resume. Here are a few questions to help you prepare.
“What do you know about our church?” Now what this questions really means, is they want to know if you have done your homework. They want to know if you are going to be a good emissary for their church and represent them well. This is a unique opportunity to set yourself apart from the other candidates. Most everyone will go read the About Us page on the website. So, this is your opportunity not to just regurgitate their mission statement, but show how your passions align with them.
“Why are you interested in this role?” is the second question. Now churches want to hire people who are passionate about the role and about their church. So you should have a great answer prepared for why you want it. What about the role fits with you and why you want to be part of this church. If you aren’t passionate about the position, then do everyone a favor and look elsewhere.
Next, “How do you handle conflict?” Sure you seem like a nice person, but what happens when you clash with the keepers of the status quo? What about when you clash with your boss or another lateral leader in the ministry? Bring up a specific example, the action you took, and how it brought about resolution. It may also be helpful to have a similar example of a way in which you brought about a healthy compromise.
Now that you understand how to answer these interview questions, what are you going to do about it?
