90 Second Leadership – A Cruise to Nowhere –

July 20, 2017

A Cruise to Nowhere

Today, I want to talk to you again about Leadership Pipeline. When I lived in DC, I often saw advertisements for cruises to nowhere. What is a cruise to nowhere? It is a lot like it sounds, a ship would leave the port of Baltimore and it would go meander around the ocean, never stopping at any island or any port of call along the way and you would end up right back where you started.
Unfortunately, training in a lot of our churches and businesses as well, is a cruise to nowhere. People don’t know where they are going. Training consists of choosing your own adventure and it’s is a bucket of training hours, and you do whatever is right in your own mind.
Well, Leadership Pipeline is different. We have core competencies for leaders at every level. A volunteer, a leader, a coach, a director of ministry or a senior leader of a church. They all have core competencies no matter what role they are in.
Of course, we have role based competencies as well. When you look at role based competencies, think about that small group leader, think about that student pastor, we have specific training for those leaders as well.  Core based training and role based training, all leading to core competency in Leadership Pipeline.
Are you on a cruise to nowhere? Are you putting your people on a cruise to nowhere?
What are you going to do about it?
