Having a strategy for your church communication is the first step to success. However, it is also important that you have a way of assessing whether or not your strategy is effective. Through evaluation, you see what is working well in your communication and what needs improvement.
Here are three criteria to keep in mind as you evaluate your communication strategy.
- Does your strategy have a clear goal for your communication? When you have a goal set, you can see how your efforts compare with your expectations. Having a defined measurement to determine when you’ve hit the mark is an incredibly important aspect of assessing your communication strategy.
- Can your strategy be communicated in a clear and concise manner? Although we often think, “The more information, the better,” it is actually best to keep your communication strategy short and sweet. A good goal is to be able to clearly spell it out on a single sheet of paper. If you’re able to do this, your strategy is concise enough. If it takes multiple pieces of paper and a few diagrams to effectively communicate your strategy, chances are it’s not clear enough.
- Does this strategy support the mission and vision of your church? It’s easy to create something that you’re passionate about. But when it comes to your communication strategy, you must remind yourself that you are representing the church, so it is your church’s mission and values you should be focusing on, not your own.
A communication strategy for your church is a incredibly beneficial, but it’s important to have a way to assess that strategy to make sure that is is effective. When assessing your church strategy, make sure that you can identify a clear goal for your communication, that it is clear and concise, and that it supports the overall mission and vision of your church.
