Many types of meetings happen in your church each week. A stand up meeting is helpful to start off the week and debrief the previous Sunday experience. This weekly meeting is quick, so you stand up for its duration (hence the name).
Depending on your church’s size, the stand up meeting may include your entire staff or key leaders involved in your church’s weekend worship experience. It’s important to use the same framework each time so everyone knows what to expect and you can keep it brief.
Here are five things to do in a stand up meeting.
1. Celebrate
As you look at the previous Sunday or weekend services, where did you see God at work? Allow your team to share wins and celebrate together what God is doing in your church and ministries. Also note things that you want to share and celebrate with your church as a whole.
2. Evaluate
Evaluate what took place during the previous Sunday. Often, something slips through the cracks and you aren’t fully prepared for your weekend experience. If anything was missed, make a note to take care of it this week to better prepare for next weekend. This type of evaluation provides mutual accountability for your team.
3. Forecast
What is your team working on this week? As you get into the rhythm of a weekly stand up meeting, your team can come in prepared to share what they’re working on for the week. A bonus question to ask is: what’s the one thing you can accomplish this week that would be a game-changer for your ministry?
4. Encourage
Take a couple minutes to encourage your team. Read Scripture or an excerpt from a leadership book that will motivate your team for the week ahead.
5. Pray
Pray as a team and over the work you will accomplish this week, the celebrations you’ve shared, and the upcoming things that are happening in the life of your church. Instead of taking personal prayer requests during this time, focus on your church and ministries and lean prayerfully dependent upon the Lord for the work He has prepared for you this week.
