90 Second Leadership – Leadership Pipeline –

July 17, 2017

Leadership Pipeline

Today, I want to talk to you about Leadership Pipeline.
Most of the time when I walk into an organization and I am there for the day talking about Pipeline, I ask them, “Hey are you familiar with the concept?” They will say, “Yes!”.
They will draw me a lovely linear pathway or progression of how leaders come through their ministry. Sometimes, they will even draw a funnel. That my friends is not a pipeline, it is a pipe dream. A pipeline is altogether different.
A pipeline recognizes a person’s progression in levels of leadership, a mind shift has to take place. When you move from being a individual contributor to a leader, to a leader of leaders, to leading a full business or a ministry in a church, then to finally leading a church or organization; all of these passages and transformations require a shift. A shift in how you value time, a shift in how you spend resources, all of these things have to be considered.
Far too many times, when a person is a good individual team member and is not a sociopath, and they handle their resources and responsibilities well, we put them over a team. The false Pipeline happens, they aren’t prepped and they aren’t prepared.
I have one question for you, are you going to give them a pipe dream or a Pipeline?
What are you going to do about it?
