90 Second Leadership – Leadership Chess or Leadership Checkers?
I love games because they illustrate life and leadership. Let’s talk about two games: chess and checkers. I think you will see the analogy.
In the church, we have a choice. We can play chess or checkers. In the game of checkers, all the pieces are the same. They all have the same really basic moves. Chess is completely different. Each piece is unique and has its own moves.
When we look at the body of Christ, we are reminded that each person has their own role. Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we are God’s workmanship, and each one of us has been created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which He has prepared in advance for us to do.
We as church leaders have a role as well. We have one role: to equip the saints for the work of the ministry.
So are we treating and equipping our people like they are chess pieces or checkers? When you look at leadership and people development in your church, are you treating people the same? If you are, then you are limiting the work of the body. If you are, then you are limiting the impact you could have in your community and in the Kingdom.
Are you going to settle for checkers, or are you doing to play chess? What’s your move?
