90 Second Leadership – Concentric Learning

Let’s talk about concentric learning. In the church, we wouldn’t say “concentric learning” because it’s an educational term. Instead, we would say “spiritual maturity.” Both terms are about understanding a concept.
For example, consider the concept of grace. When I became a believer, I understood grace. Then I got married, and I understood grace deeper still. And then I had children, and I understood grace deeper still. And so on and so forth.
When we look at leadership pipeline and competency-based learning, what we’re trying to do is help someone move up the pipeline and understand different concepts. As they grow, mature, and develop, they will come around and understand different competencies deeper and deeper still.
When I’m leading myself well versus when I’m leading others, leading a ministry or leading a church, I need to understand different concepts at different levels of competency. I might understand conflict in one manner and then understand conflict in another and another and another as I grow and develop as a leader.
Now that you understand leadership pipeline, concentric learning, and competency-based development and how they fit together, what are you going to do about it?
