Today I want to talk to you about clearer decision making in your church. Now, people stop making good and quick decisions in your church because the process between the information that they have and their ability to make decisions is messy. It’s overly complicated. Why? Because as your church ministry grows, you tend to add policies and procedures – all kinds of things – into the decision-making process. But then, this actually doesn’t speed this process up. It doesn’t actually help you make better decisions. It just slows down the ministry. So, let’s take a look at why. There are three primary reasons:
The first thing is you don’t have a clear vision and values. If your vision and values are clear, it’s easy for people to make decisions because those decisions align and support the vision and values you have. You have embedded them into your culture and people naturally know how to respond when they are facing a decision. So, it’s really easy.
Second, people are in the wrong place. Maybe you practice leadership placement over leadership development and this is why a church should have a leadership pipeline in place because when you do so you have clear competencies and role expectations for everyone to lead in ministry areas. That will really help in their decision making.
Third, you are a control freak. That’s it. You probably haven’t practiced leadership development, nor have you practiced a leadership pipeline, or have anything like that in place. You force all decisions to come through you to receive your stamp of approval. Remember, as Paul commands us in Ephesians 4, your role as a leader is actually to equip the saints for the work of the ministry, not do all the work for yourself.
